A Case Report of Neurovascular Dorsalis Pedis Free Flap Transfer

Abstract
An island flap based on the dorsalis pedis artery and two or more accompaning venae commitantes was first described by O¢¥Brien and Shanmugan in 1973.
In 1975, McCraw and Furlow described the anatomy and the technical aspects of the dorsalis pedis free flap for the transfer.
And the techniques were refined by Daniel et al. in 1976 when they transferred not only the artery but also the nerve to restore sensibility to the recipient area.
Since then its potential has been realized in many centers, and modifications to the flap have been developed to increase its application.
The neurovascular dorsalis free flap was very useful to restore the touch sensation of the hand and the protective sensibility of the weight bearing areas, especially in the sole area.
We experienced a case of microsurgical neurovascular dorsalis pedis free flap transfer to a patient whose heel pad had been lost and the calcaneus exposed and the result of which was excellent.
